Display is an immersive pneumatic installation, a yellow inflatable structure designed to be entered. Once inside, the visitor encounters a rectangle of light, its colors and shifting patterns oscillate between hypnotic and blinding. At the center of this rectangle lies a reflective surface, as light floods the interior of the inflatable, the center gradually transforms into a mirror. The brighter the illumination, the more complete the reflection.
In truth, the rectangle of light is a window to the exterior of the building. By entering the inflatable, one becomes exposed to the gaze of passersby in the night. The differential in lighting creates an asymmetrical visibility: those outside can see clearly into the inflatable through the window, while those inside perceive only their own reflection.
From the outside of the building, the vertical window glows like a phone screen, transforming the building façade into a display surface. Inside, the visitor inhabits a paradox: the space is simultaneously private and exposed, intimate and surveilled. Not unlike social media, the inflatable renders human behaviour visible to passersby while the occupant sees only their own reflection. From within, the window becomes a mirror. From outside, it’s a display.
